Keying in the e-mail settings manually
You may receive the e-mail connection settings as an Over The Air (OTA) message
from the e-mail service provider. You can also key in the settings manually.
1. Press
Menu
in standby mode and select
Messages
,
,
Open
,
Other options
and
Settings
.
2. Select
Mailbox in use
and the mailbox whose settings you want to edit. These
settings are needed for sending and retrieving e-mail messages. For the correct
settings, contact your e-mail service provider.
3. Select
Edit active mailbox
and define the settings one by one.
•
Mailbox name
: Key in the name that you want to use for the mailbox.
•
E-mail address
: Key in your e-mail address.
•
My name
: Key in your name or nickname if you want the recipient to see it.
•
Outgoing (SMTP) server
: Key in the address of the outgoing e-mail server.
•
Incoming server type
: Select
POP3
or
IMAP4
. If the server supports both
types, select
IMAP4
. Changing the server type also changes the port
number for incoming e-mail.
•
Incoming (POP3/IMAP) server
: Key in the address of the incoming e-mail
server.
•
POP3/IMAP user name
: Key in the user name that is needed to access the
mailbox. If you have not defined your
SMTP user name
, the e-mail server
uses this user name instead.

POP3/IMAP password
: Key in the password that is needed to access the
mailbox. If you have not defined your
SMTP password
, the e-mail server
uses this password instead.

Advanced settings
and select

Outgoing (SMTP) port
: Key in the port number for outgoing e-mail.
•
Use SMTP authorisation
: Set this setting to on if your e-mail service
provider requires authentication for sending e-mail. You have to also
define your
SMTP user name
and
SMTP password
.
•
SMTP user name
: Key in the user name for outgoing e-mail that you
have obtained from your e-mail service provider.
•
SMTP password
: Key in the password for outgoing e-mail. If you do not
define this setting, the phone asks for it when you make a connection to
your e-mail account.
•
Include signature
: If you set this setting to on, you can define a text that
is automatically added to the end of the messages that you send.
•
Incoming (POP3/IMAP) port
: Key in the port number for incoming e-
mail.
•
Reply-to address
: Key in the e-mail address to which you want the
replies to be sent, if it differs from your e-mail address.
•
Secure login APOP
: Select
On
if your connection requires an encrypted
login, otherwise leave it to
Off
. This setting is only shown if you have
selected
POP3
in the
Incoming server type
setting.

Using encrypted login enables improved security for user names and
passwords. It does not improve security for the connection itself.
•
Retrieve e-mails
: Select
All
to retrieve all your e-mail messages at once,
or select
User defined
to retrieve only some of them at a time.
